What a couples massage is
Two tables are set up side by side in one private room, and two therapists work at the same time so that both of you begin and end together. It is the practical answer to the usual problem of one person waiting in reception while the other is treated.
Couples is about who is in the room, not about a particular technique. You each choose your own treatment and your own pressure, so one of you can have a firm deep tissue massage while the other has a gentle aromatherapy massage.
Who it suits
Partners, of course, but just as often a parent and an adult child, two friends, or colleagues marking the end of a long project. Anyone who would find the whole idea less daunting with a familiar face in the room, first-timers included, tends to like it.
How the session works
Please book ahead. A couples session needs one room and two therapists free at the same time, which makes it the treatment most likely to be unavailable at short notice. Tell us both treatments when you call.
Each of you is asked about health and preferences separately, and draped as usual. You can talk to each other or not; most people go quiet within a few minutes. If either of you would rather be in a room alone after all, say so when you book and we will arrange that instead.
Questions about couples massage
Do both of us have to have the same treatment?
No. You each choose your own treatment and your own pressure. Tell us both when you book so we can put the right two therapists in the room.
Do we have to be a couple?
Not at all. Friends, family and colleagues book it just as often. It simply means two guests treated side by side in one room.
How far ahead should we book a couples massage?
As far ahead as you can manage. It needs a room and two therapists at the same time, so it is the first thing to fill on evenings and weekends.
