Soft Silence Spa
Balinese massage in Hydershakote, Hyderabad
An Indonesian style that layers acupressure and skin rolling over flowing oil strokes: firm, warm and unhurried.
What Balinese massage is
Balinese massage comes from Indonesia and borrows from several traditions at once. Your therapist alternates between smooth oil strokes, thumb and palm acupressure held on particular points, and skin rolling, where a fold of skin is gently lifted and moved along the muscle. Aromatic oil is used throughout.
The result is firmer than it sounds. It reaches further than a Swedish massage without becoming the concentrated single-area work of deep tissue, which is why a number of guests settle on it as their regular booking.
Who it suits
People who want something with more character than a standard oil massage, and people who like firm pressure but want it spread across the whole body rather than driven into one shoulder. It also suits anyone who enjoys the scent side of a treatment but finds pure aromatherapy too light.
How the session works
You change in private and are draped throughout. Your therapist warms the muscle with oil strokes first, then adds acupressure and rolling where it is useful, returning to flowing strokes in between so the session never feels like a series of separate techniques.
Acupressure points can feel briefly sharp when they are tender. That is the moment to speak up, and your therapist will ease off or move on.
Questions about balinese massage
Is Balinese massage painful?
No. The pressure is firm and a tender acupressure point can feel sharp for a moment, but the session should stay comfortable throughout. Your therapist adjusts as soon as you say so.
How is Balinese different from Thai massage?
Both use pressure points, but Balinese is done with oil while you lie still, and Thai is done clothed with assisted stretching. Balinese is the calmer of the two; Thai feels more active.
Which oil is used for a Balinese massage?
An aromatic oil, chosen with you at the start of the session. Tell us about allergies or sensitive skin and we will use a milder or unscented oil instead.
